Lost & Found

Meet Max…

True stories from Identipet clients 💙

Our Siamese cat was born in 2007 in Durban. We then moved to Johannesburg and Max came along with us. He was very happy for the first year but then we got a bouncy Boxer dog - Max had grown up with Boxers but this one was particularly boisterous. He disappeared in 2016. At first we thought that he had found a dog-free house, so we contacted the local vets and SPCA but with no luck. We heard via the community grapevine that Max was dead and after some months of absence, we sadly accepted that he was gone.

Fast forward to Oct 2023, we were on our way to the Western Cape when I received a text message from our old Durban vet saying that our pet had been identified through Identipet. I immediately thought there must be a mistake. I contacted the vet practice only to be told that our pet was actually at the SPCA in Booysens, Johannesburg. I still had no idea what animal they were referring to but started to hope that it was a Siamese cat. I called SPCA and was told that they had a seal point Siamese, who was very noisy. I knew immediately that it was our Max!

On our return, we went straight to the SPCA, and it was incredible to hold him for the first time in 7 years. He was very happy to see us and was immediately affectionate. We undertook the re-adoption process, and he came home after a few days. He is still the same old cat, with the same old crazy habits, but he has learned a few new tricks in the intervening years, such as trying to cover himself under the bed covers at night!

How absolutely crazy that we have our Max cat back at home after 7 years! He is very happy to be home and has settled down well (our boisterous Boxer has passed away in the interim).

We are incredibly grateful that Identipet still had a record of his microchip details, as we would never have reunited with him if it was not for that!

Thanks to an observant passer-by, quick-thinking team and the owner’s decision to microchip his dog, AWS were able to quickly trace and reunite Gia a 5-year-old spayed female Pitbull, who we strongly suspect was stolen.

Gia’s owner, who spent days driving around trying to find her, was so happy to have her back and extremely grateful to the team who followed their instincts leading to her recovery and return in March 2023.

This unfortunate incident ended well due to Gia being microchipped and just goes to show what an invaluable investment this tiny and relatively inexpensive piece of technology represents for pet owners. The procedure is painless, takes only a few minutes and the benefits last the lifetime of your pet.

From Africa to America

We brought our Yorkie with us to the United States from South Africa, where we lived for many years. He was microchipped and registered with Identipet. Our plans changed, and we had to leave him with what seemed like a good family, before going back to South Africa temporarily. Ten years later back in the States, we got an email from Identipet in October 2024, saying Knoxville Animal Control found our dog, Hansie. We rushed to get him back. When I called his name, he gave me a kiss. We took him to the vet and scheduled grooming right away. Hansie's old now; he has cataracts, lost some teeth, has hip trouble, tangled fur, and skin issues. We don't know what he's been through, but we'll care for him and love him for the rest of his life. He's such a sweet dog. We're so grateful to have our Yorkshire Terrier, Hansie, back with us.

The Power of Microchipping

This little Schnauzer was admitted as a stray to the Centurion SPCA and in less than 3 hours he was reunited with the owner thanks to it’s microchip!
